JASAC co-volunteers of the '08-09 year

Kathleen Harless of SAFE Credit Union &

Crystal Miller of Indoor Environmental Service

Kathleen and Crystal did an outstanding job implementing the JA Success Skills program at two River City High School classes.  These ladies facilitated the program that enabled the students to identify and demonstrate the work-readiness skills needed to research, get and keep a job.  In addition, students were also given the opportunity to develop personal strategies to achieve lifelong learning pursuits and career opportunities.  Congratulations to Kathleen and Crystal for being named JASAC volunteers of '08-09!

Company Coordinator of the '08-09 year

Christina McKim of Verizon Wireless

Christina McKim, of Verizon Wireless, was selected as JASAC’s Company Coordinator of 08-09 school year.   She did an outstanding job enlisting Verizon Wireless employees as  volunteers to conduct JA programs for the second consecutive year at Empire Oaks Elementary School.   Christina was instrumental in recruiting employees, helping with the school\class assignment process and with communication to Verizon Wireless employees.  Congratulations to Christina, and we thank her for the time she dedicated to coordinate the delivery of JA programs to students.

Junior Achievement - Microsoft Partnership

Through our strategic partnership with Microsoft, JA students, teachers, volunteers and staff now have free access to Microsoft Unlimited Potential (UP) technology curriculum through the JA website. This self-taught and self-paced UP curriculum was developed by Microsoft to provide young people with learning opportunities designed to make them more technologically competitive in today's global society. Students can get certification from Microsoft for each of eight topics:

Thanks to the JA '08-09 Classroom Volunteers

Junior Achievement of Sacramento would like to thank all of the volunteers, principals, teachers, school coordinator's, school administrative staff and businesses who partnered with us to educate thousands of students and last year we reached 8,240 students in the greater Sacramento area.

Junior Achievement will ensure that every child has
a fundamental understanding of the free enterprise system.

By opening a classroom for a few hours a semester, teachers give volunteers the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students who will benefit from their experience, enthusiasm and  commitment.  And teachers are happy to learn JA Programs can make a positive impact on students' test scores.

Junior Achievement of Sacramento provides complete training and easy-to-use program materials.

"Junior Achievement holds a very special place in my heart.
Your excellent curriculum and committed volunteers
provide America's youth with the tools they need to
become successful in their career and in their
personal lives. Financial literacy opens the door
to their understanding of the many opportunities this
country has to offer." -- Former U.S. Treasurer, Rosie Marin

Junior Achievement classroom volunteer opportunities

Junior Achievement has many opportunities for volunteering. In addition to classroom volunteers, we always invite volunteers to help with events throughout the year.

A JA classroom volunteer's time commitment typically involves facilitating 5-8 lessons depending upon the grade level.  At the elementary school grade level, the school can have a volunteer deliver all program activities in one day, (JA Done in the Day); or the traditional delivery method, where a volunteer conducts one lesson per week over the course of several weeks (5 wks for grades K-5 and 6 wks for 6th grade).  Each lesson ranges between 30-45 min, depending upon the student's grade level.  Junior and High school volunteers will present programs that typically require 7-8 visit in the classroom; with each visit averaging 45-50 min.  The volunteer and partnering teacher determine the dates and times of the JA program visits.  Each volunteer will receive a kit containing instructor guides and student materials needed to conduct the sessions.  In addition, every new JA volunteer will receive a brief ~35 min orientation by the JA staff to help prepare the volunteer before going into the classroom.
